INDIVIDUAL TUTOURING

Tracey loves to share her love of art and is passionate about her personal approach to teaching. Tracey works with individuals, developing a way of learning that works for them this giving them the opportunity to unlock their unique talent and develop confidence in their own creative style.

JAKOB

I was approached by Jakob’s mum Mareika back in 2015 to ask if I would be interested in supporting/tutoring Jakob with art.
Jakob has autism spectrum disorder the lifelong neurological condition leads to problems with social skills, communication and sensory issues. It did not take long to notice Jakob’s interest in photography and it was then my intent to follow and support this interest. Not only is Jakob learning photography skills, he is learning life and social skills and feeling more connected to community. He tells me that when he is with his camera in nature he is in his happy space. It is exciting to see him achieve so much over the 4 years including: photography awards, a postcard range available now at 2 local galleries, his own solo exhibition and his first public commission in 2017. I am grateful to work with Jakob and find that he teaches me too as we journey together.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION - 'THROUGH MY EYES'

A 20 year old lifelong local, Jacob was diagnosed as being on the austism spectrum when he was 7 years old. ASD is a lifelong neurological condition that leads to problems with social skills, communication and sensory issues.

Through My Eyes was inspired by his love of photography, the Gladstone region and how art has changed Jacob’s life. “I love taking nature photos and using natural light, I find that when I am at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens with my camera I am in a happy place. This exhibition can show others like me that you can do whatever you want in life – we are all good at something.”

Jacob explains, “It has been a difficult road to travel. Over the years I have not found anything that I feel I am good at, until I discovered photography. In the last two years I have devoted more time to discovering this art form and it makes me happy.”

Interview starts at 10.17

"ART ON FLEET" - POP-UP PUBLIC ART PROJECT

The opportunity to work collaboratively has been eagerly accepted by Gladstone Region artists embracing the chance to display their work ’on the move’, in this series of locally created Art of Fleet pop-up public artworks. Seventeen vinyl reproductions are being hosted on Gladstone Regional Council vehicles, presented by fifteen local artists.

KOOKABURRA SHELL

Lifelong local Jakob, has devoted a lot of time to developing his photography skills and says the art form makes him happy. “I have been told that I am very good photographer and I have had my work displayed at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, several times already. “I find that when I am with my camera I am in a happy place”. Jakob says he loves taking nature photos using natural light. The Kookaburra Shell is so named because of its resemblance to a perched Kookaburra. Only small, about 30mm in length, the species lives in the sandy-mud of the Gladstone Harbour.
