A 20 year old lifelong local, Jacob was diagnosed as being on the austism spectrum when he was 7 years old. ASD is a lifelong neurological condition that leads to problems with social skills, communication and sensory issues.
Through My Eyes was inspired by his love of photography, the Gladstone region and how art has changed Jacob’s life. “I love taking nature photos and using natural light, I find that when I am at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens with my camera I am in a happy place. This exhibition can show others like me that you can do whatever you want in life – we are all good at something.” Jacob explains, “It has been a difficult road to travel. Over the years I have not found anything that I feel I am good at, until I discovered photography. In the last two years I have devoted more time to discovering this art form and it makes me happy.” |
