After receiving news in 2011 that Tracey’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer it prompted her to do something to promote awareness of prostate cancer and to raise money for more research on the disease.
The fundraising event was held at Gladstone PCYC September 14th 2012 and was organised by Tracey Smith and the help of Gladstone News Weekly’s manager Faye McGown and Geoff Lester from Prostate Cancer Association of Gladstone. Tracey sang a selection of her original songs from her newly released CD ‘Living on Mars’. The CD was for sale on the night with 100% of the sales going to the prostate cancer foundation. With a crowd of 220 in attendance many in costume – the stage was set for a fantastic evening before the entertainment even got underway. Miss Burlesque 2010 Flavella L’Amour arrived on stage – complete with large feathers and a large python. Wendy Barker’s dance troupe performed a lively dance routine. Keeping a lower profile, but attracting plenty of attention nonetheless, was Theatre of Life artist Bob Gammage. Painting the scene as he saw it – the finished item was auctioned off. The event was highly successful and Geoff Lester was delighted to receive a cheque for $10,851 on behalf of the prostate cancer foundation. |
Tracey has a long-term love affair with music, and has enjoyed singing and playing guitar since she was a teenager.
Her music is narrative in style and every song tells a story. Her inspiration comes from personal experience – her own and from the lives of her family and friends. “Living on Mars” was launched in conjunction with a fundraising night for prostate cancer at the Gladstone PCYC on the 14th of September 2012. All the profits from the sale of this album are going to PCFA. They are the peak national body for prostate cancer in Australia, and are dedicated to reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners, families and the wider community. Tracey personally dedicates her album “Living on Mars” to the inspirational men in her family that are currently fighting this disease. |
